GRJFA Tackle Cheerleading Program
The GRJFA cheerleading program is a recreational program open to anyone interested in collegiate-style cheerleading (sideline cheers and cheer routines that incorporate dance moves, stunting, and tumbling). Our program supports GRJFA’s mission to build character and teach sportsmanship in a fun and safe environment. The tackle cheerleading program is open to children who live in Glen Rock from second through eighth grades.
No prior cheer experience is required. Girls will learn basic cheerleading skills, sideline cheers, and a halftime dance routine under the supervision of a professional cheer coach. This is NOT a competitive cheer program.
Tackle cheerleading practice begins in August, with specific practice dates determined by midsummer. In the fall, tackle cheerleaders have one weekday practice per week and are expected to cheer at football games on the weekends. The regular cheer season begins in September and ends in late October, with playoffs, if made by the respective football squad, extending the season into November. Roughly half the games are played at home and half are away. Tackle cheer game schedules are dependent upon the corresponding tackle football squad schedule.
Flag cheerleading (kindergarten and first grade) meets once a week, usually Saturday mornings, at the same time as flag football. They do not attend games. Our eighth grade tackle cheerleaders volunteer their time to work with the young girls, teaching them basic skills and cheers. Please note that we need at least two volunteer parents who will commit to help coordinate this program in order for it to run.
GRJFA belongs to the Tri-County Youth Football League. Some of the towns we play include Butler, Kinnelon, and Wanaque, to give you an idea of the distances you’ll travel for away games.
Last but certainly not least, GRJFA relies on parent volunteers in order for it to run. In addition to team parents for each squad, we need volunteers for the snack stand, press box, and other game-day operations.
